Kristen Richards, Hon. AIA, Hon. ASLA, has written about the industry, the firms, and the personalities for more than 25 years. She is co-founder and editor-in-chief of ArchNewsNow.com, launched in 2002. Her second hat, donned 2003 through 2016, was as editor-in-chief of Oculus magazine, the quarterly journal of the AIA New York Chapter.
Prior to ArchNewsNow.com, she spent two years as editor-in-chief of DesignArchitecture.com. This followed a 10-year tenure as news editor/feature writer for Interiors magazine, and as a freelance journalist and photographer for national and international design and business publications.
In the book world, Kristen was the editorial consultant for Cocktails and Conversations: Dialogues on Architectural Design, by Abby Suckle, FAIA, and William Singer, AIA (AIANY), and Iconic Buildings: An Illustrated Guide to the World’s Most Remarkable Architecture, by Studio Esinam (Rizzoli); contributed a chapter to Designed for the Future: 80 Practical Ideas for a Sustainable World, edited by Jared Green (Princeton Architectural Press); wrote the foreword for New York Dozen: Gen X Architects, by Michael J. Crosbie, FAIA (Images); and penned AIA Gold Medalist profiles for Architecture: Celebrating the Past, Designing the Future, the AIA 150th Anniversary tome.
In addition to being an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects and the American Society of Landscape Architects, Kristen is the recipient of the AIANY Harry B. Rutkins Award for Service to the Chapter and the Profession, the AIANY President’s Commendation, and the Society of Marketing Professional Services – New York/SMPS Media Honor Award. She has served on numerous international design juries and conference panels..
