Sarah Zames

Sarah grew up in Northwest Connecticut and has been living and designing in New York City and Los Angeles for the past two decades. After working at several international firms, her attraction to the intimacy and scale of residential design led her to start General Assembly in 2011.

Since then, Sarah has looked towards each new project as a unique opportunity to further develop an understanding of how color, light, and texture can make places feel personal.

Sarah received a Masters degree in Architecture from UCLA, and a Bachelor of Arts from New York University.

General Assembly is an acclaimed full service design office, whose name refers to myriad components –from the people to the objects and the materials – that come together and create a successful space.

The studio approaches each project as a complete work, handling all aspects of design from the interior architecture to furniture and finishes. In addition to ground up and full renovation projects, General Assembly designs custom lighting and furniture, and is available for interior consulting, styling and staging services.

Through the years, the studio has put particular attention to building a strong network of trusted local craftspeople and designers in order to ensure a united direction and the highest quality standards throughout the completion of every project.

Founded in 2011 and based in Brooklyn, NY, General Assembly’s breadth has expanded to include some of the chicest projects from the Hamptons to London. In this short time, their work has received national and international recognition including features in The New York Times, T Magazine, Architectural Digest, NY Magazine, Vogue Living and Elle Decor.
