Lighting Designer

The Light Studio exists to guide the creation of truly exceptional light within the home. Lighting shapes how a space feels, how architecture is experienced, and how daily life unfolds. We work alongside homeowners, architects, and interior designers to translate inspiration into a clear, considered plan—and carry that vision through to completion with precision and accountability. From initial concept through final calibration, our role is to deliver a lighting experience that feels effortless, cohesive, and distinctly elevated.

The studio is led by James Vermeulen, whose three decades of experience span theatre, fashion, and architecture. A graduate of Purchase College in Design Technology, he brings a balance of creative intuition and technical rigor to every project. His approach considers not just illumination, but how light influences perception, movement, and atmosphere. Working in close collaboration with the broader design team, he ensures that intent is carried through the details—resulting in lighting that is fully integrated, purposeful, and enduring.
