Matt Bucholz
Business Consultant
Matt started in this industry as a craftsperson, working as a carpenter on some of the most demanding residential and commercial projects in the Bay Area and Central Coast. Over the next two decades he moved through every level of the work: preconstruction, project management, principal, owner’s representative and eventually, CEO. Matt has held every role between the tools and the table, led teams, navigated complexity and made the hard calls that come with each one.
That experience is the foundation of Bucholz Works (BWX), a high-end residential AEC business, project and leadership advisory firm. The vision driving the work is specific: an industry in which every party, owner, designer and builder, operates from shared accountability to the project rather than self-protection. Where owners are aligned with project realities from the start, designers are deeply integrated into the physical sequence of construction and builders estimate and schedule from truth rather than fear. Where tradespeople work in flow, their craft held in the esteem it deserves, and the experience of building is marked by joy, creative presence and dignity for every person who touches the work.
That vision requires someone inside the work, not observing it from a distance. BWX operates as an embedded presence across the full arc of an engagement. Matt works with a limited number of clients deeply and with intention, because accountability to the project, and to the people doing it, is not possible at arm’s length. The work spans leadership development, organizational clarity, and succession planning – always with an origin in Project Advocacy. The goal is always the same: Elevate through service – reduce suffering.
