Michael Hsu, FAIA, IIDA is the founder and principal of Michael Hsu Office of Architecture (MHOA), a fully integrated architecture and interior design firm providing furniture selection and design services, as well as art direction and branding. MHOA was founded in 2005 and employs 75 team members across studios in Austin and Houston, as well as staff in Dallas, Denver, Nashville, Louisville, and Boston. The work of MHOA is rooted in hospitality and covers a range of expertise such as large mixed-use developments, adaptive reuse projects, public realm design, single family homes, hotels, restaurants, retail spaces, workspaces, bespoke furniture design and branding and visual identity.

MHOA is a nationally award-winning firm, including AN Interior’s Top Design firms of 2023 and AIA Austin Firm of the Year. The firm has received numerous design awards from the Texas Society of Architects, AIA Los Angeles, IIDA, Hospitality Design and Dezeen, among others.

Following graduation from the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture, Hsu worked at OMA in the Netherlands before returning to Austin where he has practiced since 1998. Hsu was elevated to AIA’s College of Fellows in 2021, was selected as a part of the inaugural Longhorn 100. Hsu is a recipient of the Texas Asian Chamber of Commerce Sustainable Horizon Award.

Hsu is currently a member of the Austin Center for Design Board of Directors, the Austin SoHo House Committee, serves as a St. Andrews Episcopal School Trustee and as a member of the University of Texas School of Architecture’s Advisory Council and a member of the Mueller Development Design Review Committee. Hsu is a past Austin Design Week Advisory Board member, a past member of the Texas Society of Architects Board of Directors and Past President of AIA Austin. Hsu has lectured across the country at universities and architecture forums and at SXSW and has served on countless design jury panels for AIA and IIDA chapters and notable publications such as Architect’s Newspaper. He has been a guest on distinguished podcasts such as DesignED and Monograph, among others.
