We’re accustomed to seeing our competitors in a negative light. Losing out on projects can make us feel like there are only a limited number of opportunities to succeed, and that there aren’t enough to go around.
Brick & Wonder proposes a different paradigm.
There is an abundance of opportunity. If we put ourselves in the mindset of abundance rather than scarcity, we can begin to trust our competitors and engage openly with them.
Who can be a better referral partner than someone who does similar work and knows what the client really needs? Engage in conversation with your competitors so they understand your specific strengths. They can then pass along opportunities that may be a better fit for you.
Building relationships with competitors can unlock other growth opportunities beyond referrals. Ask your peers directly about aspects of their business you admire. You will be surprised how open people are willing to be — and you can afford to be too, as long as you see the world through the lens of abundance rather than scarcity.
