Kiki Dennis & Marc Leff of TenBerke

Designing and constructing buildings takes place over many years, with many people collaborating together. In the Brick and Wonder podcast, we have conversations with people who work together to realize a collective vision.

In this episode our host, Drew Lang, was joined by two people whose collaborations evolved into years of partnership. Kiki Dennis, an interior designer and principal at TenBerke Architects, and Marc Leff an architect and principal at the firm.

You do not know it all. You never will. That’s what makes it so exciting and fun to come to work every day, is that you have problems to solve and things to figure out, and you have the skills to do it, and you have a great team to rely on to do it.

Clients have become very knowledgeable in talking about design as a result of social media. But it also means that everyone’s looking at the same work, and it emphasizes image over substance, or image over experience. A beautiful photograph on Instagram is not the same as walking into a space and living in it.

—Marc Leff

The world is becoming more aware of movements like slow food or slow fashion. I would love to see slow architecture or design take hold. And what I mean by that, is the idea of more sustainability, more longevity, and craft. And more local sourcing, with the opportunity to really work with the local community to execute the design and some of the outcomes of the project.
