An Architect, a Therapist, a Friend
Welcome to the Brick & Wonder podcast, where we delve into the art and science of collaboration within the built environment industry. Hosted by Drew Lang, founder of Brick & Wonder, this podcast explores the stories and strategies behind successful collaborations that drive innovation and shape the built world around us.
In this episode we spoke with two people who have come together in many successful project collaborations over time. Linda Cirigliano, an owner’s representative, and principal of LC THREE and Matteo Fraticelli, an architect and principal of FROM Architecture.
While it’s great to have a direct relationship with your client, sometimes you end up not being the architect. You end up being a therapist, you end up being a friend, you end up being many different things.
– Matteo Fraticelli
I think there is a stigma of [owner’s representatives] having to be a bully. I’m not that. I’m good at what I do, but I’m not that. So I want people to accept the role more as a gift to a project, as opposed to the warrior of the project.
– Linda Cirigliano
I think the common denominator is the respect for each other, the respect for the client. We’re in a service industry, and I think you can’t ever lose sight of that, and I don’t think either of us ever does, no matter how big you get, no matter how professional you get.
– Linda Cirigliano
Unfortunately, my category, the architect, can be too egocentric… So doing a little step back, sometimes it helps.
– Matteo Fraticelli
