How do you make a 105-unit condo building feel like home? At Bergen Brooklyn, a new development in Boerum Hill, a team led by Taller Frida Escobedo is achieving that effect with natural masonry, a private grove, and a rippling facade designed to maximize light.
How do you capture that in a tabletop model? This was the challenge faced by Post21, the London-based firm that worked with the teams at Avdoo & Partners and Pandiscio Green to create the complex in miniature, visualizing the design well before construction was finished.
“Pear wood was chosen to capture the salmon-toned, pleated concrete of the building’s facades,” says Peter O’Sullivan, Post21’s Director and a Brick & Wonder member. “Thin stained laser-cut plywood picks up the rhythm of the window frames, while glazing is largely set aside on the principal elevations, a deliberate abstraction that lets the model read as a sculptural object first.”
Each unit of the model has its own lighting integrated into the ceiling, a tribute to the makers’ craftsmanship and the gentle presence of the soon-to-be-finished apartments.
